I recently stumbled across the radio show, Another Bottle Down, on KOOP 91.7FM. The show covers all things wine and is hosted by Mark Rashap, a Certified Wine Educator (one of just a few in Austin) and works for the certifying body of The Society of Wine Educators. The show airs on Tuesdays at 1:00 p.m. and runs for an hour, which allows time to hear local, national and, in some cases, international personalities discuss their knowledge and love of wine. Sommeliers, wine makers, restaurant owners, local bloggers and writers are all given air time. The first time I heard the show was back in March when Murph Wilcott of Texas French Bread was being interviewed. It was a fascinating conversation that covered wine, food, bread, gluten-sensitivity, fermentation, the evolution of his restaurant and philosophy. Some time passed (I'll admit I forgot about the program), and just yesterday I happened upon Rashap interviewing Lindsay Drew, sommelier of Lonesome Dove, and learned about the importance of dessert wine. Now all I can think about is what dessert wine I can order next time I am out. Preset your radio to 91.7FM and make a point to tune into Another Bottle Down (free podcasts are available on itunes). It is a fun and interesting way to learn something new about that mysterious, living elixir that so many cherish.
The love of food and how it can bring people together led to the creation of this blog. As a mother of two grown boys, who have left the nest and occasionally return, I noticed a common occurrence-- there is usually someone at home who is hungry.
