Using local goods from Vital Farms (eggs), Mill King (milk), Richardson Farms (pork, cornmeal), Anderson Farms (maple syrup) and Flat Track Coffee, the menu is simple and straight forward. Eggs, Pancakes (gluten-free), Egg-in-a-hole, Bacon, Hash Browns or Toast. Fresh squeezed juice and hot or iced coffee are also available. The most unusual item on the menu is Scrapple. This Dutch Pennsylvania treat (a recipe from the owner's grandmother) is cornmeal mixed with sausage that is sautéed in clarified butter until it is crispy and brown. The lengthwise strips can be dipped in maple syrup for added decadence. We ordered the Scrapple and loved it; something familiar that is combined and presented in a new way. We also tried the Pancakes which were fluffy and perfectly cooked.
For me, Proper Breakfast is just right for those mornings I feel like something special to start the day, but don't feel like cooking (it's just a hop, skip and a jump down the road from my house). (Cathy)
NOTE: Proper Breakfast moved from this location since this post date and seems to have shuttered since the website and Facebook page are no longer active. So sad.
