Franklin Barbeque - Touted as #1 in Texas (and perhaps even the world), and not just by Texas Monthly (admirers include Anthony Bourdain and Bon Appetit to name a few). We haven't been in a while (you have to gear up for that line), but the last trip was top notch. Now, you could follow Franklin's smoked brisket recipe as he shares it in Texas Monthly, or view his YouTube channel for insights on how to make the best bbq, or you could just call in an order and swing by, your choice.
John Mueller Meat Co. - The bad boy of barbecue has been through a lot over the past year. His recent comeback with an East Austin trailer seems to have flung him back to the top of the barbecue heap. We have not personally visited, but it is on our list. Check out the press on Mueller and decided for yourself.
La Barbeque - This trailer is from Mueller's sister, LeAnn, and with John Lewis (formerly of Franklin's Barbecue) as pit boss, it sounds like a great combination. BYOB and dogs are welcome.
Stiles Switch Barbeque - I heard about this little joint back in the fall and have meant to go ever since. Finally the family and I made it out yesterday for a Sunday dinner, but the SOLD OUT sign was on the door when we arrived at 7:00. So sad. Owner Shane Stiles along with lead pit master Lance Kirkpatrick have a reputation for some seriously solid barbeque. Check out their entire catering menu here.
