I feel 99.5% better since I ordered an Herb Stuffed Pork Loin and Parker House rolls from Dai Due for my Christmas meal. They also have the following available for purchase at The Butcher Shop: Stuffed Whole Duck with Rice Dressing, Cotechino Stuffed Quail, Caraway and Herb Pork Tenderloins, Cotechino Sausage, and Holiday Mincemeat. Cooking instructions for the entrees are on their website. A Holiday Market is taking place December 22-23, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Dai Due patio where you will be able to purchase French bread, sourdough, Parker House rolls, conchas, kolaches, cinnamon braids, Christmas cookies, wedding cookies, ginger chews, lard snickerdoodles. cajeta sandwiches, pre-packed pecan pies, Valley lemon-chess pies, pound cakes and sweet or savory croissants.
Salt & Time also has great options for your holiday meal like Wagyu Prime Rib, Leg of Lamb and Poultry Roasts. If you are not inclined to make your own desserts, order holiday sweets from any of the bakeries included in the Thanksgiving Guide or the blog's Local Resources Page. Are you planning to eat out for your Christmas meal? Start your research now and call for a reservation if you haven't already. Many places will be closed for the holiday. Typically all of the hotels will serve meals on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Wu Chow is open on both days, too. I did notice Garbo's is doing a special pre-holiday dinner on December 22. Call for details.
It is not too early to start thinking about New Year's Eve. If you plan to go out, many restaurants and bars have special menus and events. The ones that caught my eye are: Arro,Barley Swine, Dai Due (special menu listed in their newsletter), Fonda San Miguel, Foreign & Domestic, Gardner (special menu listed in their newsletter), party at Hotel San Jose, Jeffrey's, Justine's, Launderette, la V, Lenoir, Odd Duck, Olive & June, party at The Roosevelt Room, Qui, Uchi/Uchiko and VOX Table.
Maybe you're keeping a low profile on New Year's Eve and prefer to celebrate on January 1. On New Year's Day there are special brunches planned at épicerie, Hotel San Jose and Jacoby's.
