We started one dinner with the Napa Rolls. Two soft spring rolls filled with your choice of tofu, natural chicken or walnut-cucumber, napa cabbage, julienned carrots, and a blend of fresh mint, basil, cilantro and scallions, served with their famous peanut sauce and sriracha. A great start to the meal. My son ordered one of the Tea Sandwiches, the Jasmine Gravlax Sandwich. This is jasmine tea-cured Atlantic salmon with cream cheese and thinly sliced cucumber. The bite I had left me wanting more. Very tasty. I ordered the Curry of the Day which was a chana masala style curry. Very fresh with the right amount of spice. For dessert we had the Deep Chocolate Caramel Cake. Deep is a perfect description because this cake is rich, dense and delicious; the caramel is a nice extra.
During another dinner, I tried one of the classic sandwiches called BAT. Bacon, arugula and tomato with basil mayo. This is one of my favorite sandwiches to date. Fresh, filling without being too heavy. My son had the Bacon Strata (a seasonal item which we were assured would return in the fall) which is a one of his favorite menu items.
On the third visit, my son had the Croque Monsieur, their version of the classic French ham and cheese sandwich. Broiled open faced with scallion aioli and tomato. A classic sandwich which is available with an over easy egg on top. Another winner. I had the Cashew Caesar Salad, described as a fresh and delightful take on the old standard--young romaine hearts tossed in a tangy cashew dressing, garnished with garlic croutons, cracked pepper and toasted cashews. For dessert we tried the Crème Brûlée. Larger in size than the average crème brûlée, it is rich with a perfectly executed top layer of burnt sugar.
Another dessert favorite (from a fourth visit) is the Matcha Dusted Brownie. Matcha green tea powder is sifted on top of a luscious chocolate brownie. Literally one of the best dessert items on the menu. Whether you visit, the Domain or the North Lamar location for breakfast, lunch, dinner or tea time, you will not be disappointed in this original Austin establishment. (Cathy)
