This new book by Michael Gibney, is told in 2nd person narrative and gives a peek behind the scenes of a high end New York restaurant kitchen. I first heard about it from my favorite food related podcast, Dinner Party Download. The excerpt that is read aloud in the Eavesdropping portion of the podcast is quite compelling and gives a detailed description of a Friday dinner rush. The rhythm and momentum is intense, exhilarating and almost exhausting. It gave me new appreciation for what all the talented chefs throughout the world experience while on the job. I haven't had a chance to read Sous Chef yet, but if Gabrielle Hamilton (Owner/Chef of Prune and author of Blood, Bones & Butter) and Anthony Bourdain praise it, then I think it will be well worth the time. The love of food and how it can bring people together led to the creation of this blog. As a mother of two grown boys, who have left the nest and occasionally return, I noticed a common occurrence-- there is usually someone at home who is hungry.
