A friend and I hosted a Moms' Night Out a few weeks ago with a Spanish theme. A Sangria and Tapas party was perfect. How many times have you thought to yourself that you would be happy not to cook dinner and just have a glass of wine with great cheese and crackers? Tapas are savory bite size snacks. We made some tapas for the party, but mostly had it catered by Paellas, Tapas and More. I highly recommend this catering company. The owner, Fernanda, was so professional, accommodating, easy to work and created the menu. The food was authentic Spanish and every item was interesting and delicious. They made Empanada Gallega, a pastry filled with Spanish chorizo and vegetables; Tortilla de Patatas, a classic Spanish tapa which is similar to a quiche or omelet pie with potatoes and eggs; Brushetta; Croquetas with bechamel and chicken; Gambas al Ajillo, which are shrimp tarts, and the most beautiful and delicious Tarte de Santiago, an almond cake which is gluten free. We also assembled a Spanish cheese, meat, olive and pepper platter with crackers, traditional Gazpacho Shots, a Salad with watermelon and avocado (recipe), and last but not least, Red and White Sangria. The extra bonus for the evening was Flamenco and Rumba dance lessons. Girls just want to have a lot of fun. (Gina)
The love of food and how it can bring people together led to the creation of this blog. As a mother of two grown boys, who have left the nest and occasionally return, I noticed a common occurrence-- there is usually someone at home who is hungry.
